Title: Introduction and query regarding Food triggers for FMF
Post by: Jeremyck on December 12, 2021, 07:38:13 pm
Hi I was diagnosed with FMF m694v gene mutation, and suffered with very frequent flare ups over many years. Only this year diagnosed at age 52.

I would like to know if anyone has found if food has triggered sever attacks of FMF.
I have noticed that if eating less sugary foods then my incidents and level of occurrence is greatly reduced. I had thought that food type could not be a trigger for this so I have some curiousity with this as I have been prescribed Colchanine and would much rather avoid taking this if I can control it with food intake instead.

Welcome to the forum.
I'm sorry to hear about your illness. It is definitely very highly recommended to take colchicine regularly, whether or not you are experiencing FMF symptoms.  Without colchicine treatment, people with FMF are at risk of developing AA amyloidosis, a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure. Colchicine has been very widely used and over 30 years of experience have shown it to be very safe at the usual doses given in FMF.
You can see more information about FMF at the patient information website here: https://www.amyloidosis.org.uk/fever-syndromes/the-inherited-fever-syndromes-information-on-each-syndrome/familial-mediterranean-fever-fmf/ (https://www.amyloidosis.org.uk/fever-syndromes/the-inherited-fever-syndromes-information-on-each-syndrome/familial-mediterranean-fever-fmf/)

Good luck!

Thankyou for the reply,
I suspected that it maybe the case of having to take this regardless of level of symptoms.

I will look at stating the dose that I have already been prescribed.

Kind Regards
