Kidney disease stomach pain
« on: July 15, 2019, 04:01:53 pm »
My sister has Al amyloidosis kidneys, spleen, liver and digestonal tract. She is no longer having chemo as too physically weak to cope with side effects. She is on oramorph and takes morphine twice daily in tablet form too. She has recently had kidney infections but with antibiotics these have a baited somewhat. She is now becoming incapacitated by diarrhoea and stomach pain. This can last for up to three days which means she is too weak to go downstairs as she has been able to during the last three months. I guess I'm asking whether or not this is common and what people do to help alleviate the symptoms? A hot water bottle helps but is there anything else other than oramorph that helps? We are assuming kidney function has also now deteriorated but can't get blood tests until she is in a very much worse state of lucidity. Would appreciate any feedback. With thanks Debbie

Hi Debbie, I'm sorry to hear about your sister. Has she been seen at the NAC?

Yes she was diagnosed in September last year but as she's now palliative not able to go to 2nd follow up in April this year. I presume her haematologist has let NAC know.

I recommend that you contact Darren Foard, the clinical nurse specialist at the NAC for advice on dealing with her symptoms:
darren.foard@nhs.net  020 7433 2814.
Good luck.

Very sorry to hear how poorly your sister is. It must be very difficult for you as well supporting her. Wishing you both strength to cope.

Thank you. I do try but totally overwhelming at times. I thank God I'm surrounded by supportive family and friends, my journey will begin when hers ends and it's a pretty frightening prospect. Xxx
