Book of Poems for fundraising

Dear All

This is my first post since joining this forum today so bear with me. I lost my dear wife Dee to amyloidosis in October last year. We knew she would not be with us forever when she was diagnosed in 2014 but her passing was a lot sooner than we thought-the amyloidosis was more advanced that we realised. She was a brave person who fought to the end but nothing could sadly save her in the end.

Dee was a larger than life person and very outgoing but she had a side to her that people did not always see- a quiet more reflective side. She wrote poetry and was pleased not long before she died to have found her book of old poems.

We as a family had learnt quickly that amyloidosis research and diagnosis needs more funding to provide hope to those who suffer from this condition, a condition which is still very poorly understood by some doctors and consultant who specialise in other aspects of medicine.

With that in mind, I was going to look towards publishing her poems and donate any proceeds to the amyloidosis centre. This is sort of gesture that Dee would have wanted without a doubt.

Do any of you know how I would go about this or any of you had experience of publication?-any help would be much appreciated

Regards

Paul

Hi Paul,

I am very sorry indeed to read of Dee's very painful experience with amyloidosis. Such a cruel illness, so bravely fought by Dee but sadly too advanced to respond to treatment. Your sort Paul  is indeed very emotive. You and your family have certainly been truly unfortunate to have lost such a loving and striking character as Dee.

It is very touching that you have now decided to try and find a way of honouring Dee's memory, the reflective side of her character and poetic talents to support the wonderful work of the NAC team in its endeavours for the benefit of patients. Publishing a book of Dee's poems is such a wonderful,  heartwarming idea which would, as you say, Dee have pleased Dee immensely.  :)

Whilst I am regrettably not able to help you with publishing, my daughter Chloe Bullock who writes special occasion poems in aid of The UCL Research Fund may be able to. Chloe is a forum member so you could send her an email through the forum message facility or contact her here:

She also has a Facebook page.

My very best wishes to you and your family Paul. Good Luck for a successful outcome to your courageous venture.  :) :)

Pat

Many many thanks for your kind words and your help in guiding me in the right direction. What is frustrating is that I transcribed all of Dee's poems onto my computer and then it decided it was not going to play anymore!-just a bit of time needed to sort it out but I will get there. I will certainly get in touch with your daughter to see if she can help-that is so good

Kindest regards

Paul
