My daughter Chloe is walking 42 km of the Jurrasic Coast here in Dorset in July in aid of The UCL Amyloidosis Research Fund (ARF) at the NAC.
This will be Chloe’s first Jurassic Coast walk in our home county of Dorset.
Chloe has been fundraising for the ARF since 2010. This will be yet another fundraiser by Chloe. She has a continuous fundraiser Bespoke Poems in Aid of Amyloidosis, with a website:
www.bespokepoems.com Last year one of Chloe’s poems expressing what it feels like to be diagnosed with amyloidosis was made into a rap in aid of The UCL Amyloidosis Research Fund at the NAC.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=h2bw5L2UzO8The NAC depends so much on The UCL Amyloidosis Research Fund to support the clinical work of our amazing NAC Drs and our research scientists who we patients usually do not see but who do world class amyloidosis research.
Probably the biggest project supported by the Amyloidosis Research Fund was the new Cardiac MRI suite officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal In April 2016, in her role as Vice Chancellor of University College London. Previously cardiac patients had to travel across London for a CMRI scan. As a direct result of the new CMRI suite at the NAC, huge advances have been made in research into cardiac amyloidosis of every type.
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/amyloidosis/pdfs/nac_newsletter_8.pdfThe NAC recently purchased new proteomics mass spectrometry equipment thanks to a commitment of £100,000 from the Amyloidosis Research Fund with a research grant making up the rest totalling £500,000.
The NAC is one of just a few specialist amyloidosis centres in the world with the necessary expertise and sophisticated scientific equipment to type amyloid and much else besides. See the front page feature here:
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/amyloidosis/pdfs/nac_newsletter_10.pdf“The resources provided by the UCL Amyloidosis Research Fund, through the generosity of donors, will undoubtedly make major contributions to alleviating the suffering and saving the lives of many thousands of individuals afflicted by a terrible and hitherto incurable disease. Every penny is received with sincere gratitude and is used specifically and in its entirety for amyloidosis research.”
Please support Chloe’s Jurassic Coast walk by making a donation to the UCL Amyloidosis Research Fund, through justgiving.
“Every gift of any size will make a real difference.”
