Massive fundraising success in Ireland
« on: September 02, 2019, 11:11:54 AM »
Andrew Wallace and his family, from Inishowen in Ireland, recently raised the impressive sum of €21,000 for the Amyloidosis Research Fund, following the death of Andrew's much-loved mother Eileen from amyloidosis in 2015. They travelled to the Royal Free Hospital to present the cheque to Professor Sir Mark Pepys (see here and attached article).

Andrew's fundraising activities included ‘The Race’ in March 2019, which incorporated a 250k course, that includes a 22k run, a 15k kayak, a 96k bike race, a 5k run/walk/scramble up Muckish mountain, followed by a 68k bike race and a 42k run.

Andrew has said that the most heartbreaking thing for his family is knowing that that they could have had his mum for many years more if she'd been diagnosed sooner. In addition to fundraising, it was very important to him to help other patients and families by raising amyloidosis awareness and his heroic endeavours have been extensively covered in the local press - see attached print article and online - here and here.

The Amyloidosis Research Fund has also recently inherited a benefactor who will match any donations, so the money raised has now been turned into €42,000!
